The strange holiday party invitations are starting to roll in. By strange I mean those folks you don't normally socialize with, don't really want to socialize with, that send you an invite. Of course, for me, included in that bunch would be my husband's family. When we first got married, I had a nice "newbie" hope that this was a bunch of nice people in a very extended family type of setup. They are certainly not "close" as we are in my family. In my family we send birthday cards, gifts, holiday cards of various sorts, etc. My husband's family does nothing, or may mention a birthday or significant milestone a month later.
Anyhow, my husband asks last night "you wanna go to K's tree trimming party?" I said "I don't wanna go, but I will if you decide YOU WANNA go." Yep, it is definitely not a WANNA kind of thing. More like a SHOULD do the drop-by-and-pretend-to-be-happy-family thing. However, I have some relief in knowing this just MIGHT be the LAST TIME we have to do this as we set our sights on the South for next year. Yep, that humid, break out your shorts on Christmas day thing is starting to look real good.
Meanwhile, I'm still running my air conditioner here at work...cough, sniffle...
