Pink and Blue...

I had a most delightful shopping experience today. Mind you, I am not a shopper by nature. Well, except perhaps for scouring the internet for great prices and having things mailed to my house.

Anyhow, I was out shopping for my best "Hen Friend," a fellow IVFer who has graduated to Hen Supreme in her current pregnancy with TWINS! So, as I wandered up and down the isles with my registry list in hand, I began to wonder how we landed on the color of pink for girls and blue for boys? What brought this to my attention was my want to pick things that could go either way (she's having a boy and a girl). There was a bit of the lovely mint green and yellow to be found, but it truly paled in comparison to the dominant blue-pink paradigm offerings.

So, I then wondered if any desperate graduate students have done a dissertation on the harmful effects of dressing infant girls in blue and boys in pink? Well, it's not likely they could find folks willing to risk such damage to be subjects for the study. An amusing thought for an academic nerd such as myself.

Not that I have anything against pink and blue mind you. I just wonder how we got stuck there. Would not a little girl look equally stunning in red? And, a little boy smashing in green?

Leave it to me to wonder such things while having a blast buying baby stuff for my Hen Friend! It is so rewarding to see another IVFer graduate to the parenting world...this Hen Friend deserves a diploma as she will definitely graduate summa cum laude...
