Waiting again...

So, after a scary spotting episode, I went into the ER to find out what was going on. Unfortunately, that was easier said than done. Seems I ended up with Doc Dumb and Nurse Dumber.

First, I had to tell the Doc what I wanted after he asked "what can I do for you?" He was aware that I was pregnant+ bleeding, so I just said, "I want a quantitative hcg and an ultrasound." He proceeded to do an internal cervix check and all he could say is "I think it's closed." After that fun, Nurse Dumber stood over me and admonished me for not exercising more. According to her I should be walking more and lifting weights so I don't put my body in shock. Later, she filled me in on all the sordid details of her love life (or lack thereof) while doing a crappy job of putting in a IV stud that I never needed.

Nurse Dumber then wheeled me down into the basement and I got an ultrasound tech who really wasn't: he was a very young radiologist who seemed scared of the thought of having to do an OB-GYN ultrasound. So, while waiting in the basement of the building (where no lights were on and it was pretty vacant) he finally showed and proceeded to do a stomach ultrasound. I told him that he was not likely to see much that way being the embryo was the size of an apple seed. He still proceeded and then after a breath-holding ten minutes (during which he squinted his face in all sorts of abnormal contortions) he announced that he couldn't see much. He then switched to the trans-vaginal wand (which he had me insert while he waited outside of the room and then made sure to stand far away from my rear end--which meant cranking his arm around as he stood at my side). After five long minutes, I said "can you see anything?" He said, "uhhh, I'm still trying to find your uterus." I knew then that the ultrasound wasn't going to tell me anything beyond his final conclusion--"I see the gestational sak, the yolk sak, and maybe see a flutter of a heartbeat, but I'm not sure."

So, I went back to the tried and true science of the hcg numbers. Hubby and I waited an hour and a half to get these--

Second Beta=281
Third Beta=10,000
Days between tests=11
Doubling rate=51.2 hours (acceptable range is 48-72 hours)
Daily rate=1.38

That result was actually better than I expected. Thus, I have to wait for another ultrasound later this week to tell me anything more. Thank goodness no more bleeding as of yet. While waiting for the hcg results, the staff did a shift change-over. After waiting forever, a new doctor arrived with the hcg results and re-did the cervix check and announced that it was indeed closed.

Back to the agony of waiting...

Oh Joy what an awful experience! I am so happy though to read about your fantastic beta numbers and that finally they confirmed your cervix was closed. Whew.
