Today was our home inspection. Our very eager buyers showed up at 9am to dash their home-buying optimism with the nit-picky realities of owning a fifty year old house.
Hubby and I had been sweating this moment. When you live in a place, you know all of its oddities while conveniently overlooking the niceties. Hubby has busted his buns to take care of aesthetic and practical issues over the past two weeks, but of course, there's always something left to be done. But, today was a mini-victory for us.
When we moved into this house, it had rotting siding, an illegal (non-code) deck, and a laundry list of 'should be done' fixerups ranging from plumbing to a heavy-up of the electrical box. We didn't set out to fix everything, but we have done quite a bit now that I think about it. Our biggest stars go to new siding, new gutters, new carpet, new paint and a fabulous deck.
As a result, I was gratified to hear Hubby say that the inspection went well. The couple left still quite happy with their prospective purchase. Now, if we can ace the home appraisal and get that nice big figure that they offered, we'll be like two pigs in mud!
So, we are on to phase II now: the packing. When we moved from our apartment to this house, Hubby was still working full time and put off the packing until last minute. As a result, we had to use Joy-style packing which involved shoving things in garbage bags and piling them in a U-Haul truck and hoping for the best. This time around, we are trying to be a bit more practical and organized.
We may just bust the bank and go for professionals movers who pack your crap for you. It is a bit daunting to have them come in and tell you that you have 9,000 pounds of crap to move. But, when you think of moving 9,000 pounds of stuff a distance of 1,000 miles, well, maybe this is task left only for the brave of heart and strong of back.
So, we are preparing to say goodbye to 7010...starting with a nice big yard sale before the packing is done...
