The cart before the horse...

I am really good at putting the "cart before the horse." Such is the case with the Mickey Mouse room (formally our non-themed, catch all guest bedroom).

I am already planning Gabe's toddlerhood. Yes, the Mickey Mouse room is going to be his big boy room when he moves out of the nursery. And, of course, he is going to have to move out of the nursery because I am being super positive about having another one, soon. Now, mind you, I am not going to rush him. But, with the way he is growing, I wouldn't be surprised if he can crawl out of his crib shortly after walking.

I am decorating the Mickey Mouse Suite with treasured Ebay finds. I found the comforter set featuring Mickey and Goofy as firemen for $20 (with sheets, etc.) I am stocking the room with fun building stuff--legos and mega blocks. I found a cute desk at the Wee Exchange on sale for $25:
So, that is my sideline project these days. I'm still working on wall art, a border around the top, and some curtains/valence. I love looking at the stuff on Ebay though--like this lot of Mickey banks I got for $11:

I guess I missed my call in life to be a trailer park decorator! Ha, Ha.

How did we come to choose Mickey, you ask? Well, my sister and I mulled over various options: a car/truck theme, dinosaurs, Nemo, Elmo, etc. Mickey seemed universal enough as a starter, and then later, when Gabe develops a fascination with some character (not Barney, please God), then we'll update with that theme. That's the good thing about Ebay finds--they are reasonably priced and always game for resale.

Until Gabe moves on to the Mickey suite, our guests will have a cheery, toy filled room to rest in...

Beautiful job on the room Joy. I have so many questions. I'll first just ask - when did you start collecting these things, did it take a long time?
And a comment - what a blessed thing to be able to do that for your sweetie pie, I am so looking forward to owning our own home so that I can have some fun like you... renting can be very limiting. I like to paint! I love color! Hopefully we'll own before the kids are grown and gone :(

You look like you are just having way too much fun there - when's Gabe taking his first trip to Disneyland, by the way?
;)

Thanks, Krista. I've been collecting the items over the last two months. I do random searches for Mickey Mouse on Ebay and they watch the items I am interested in. As you can imagine, there is no shortage of Mickey stuff on Ebay.

I'm trying to leave the walls the boring beige though I would love to paint bright colors.

We are thinking of moving down the way and so I don't want to permanently alter things. The border I put up is like a big sticker--it goes on easily and comes off easily. So too with Wallies though they require wetting and some teasing off when taking down.

Now that we are south, we have talked about a trip to Disney World (Florida) when Gabe is about four years old. We want him to be able to remember it and to be able to ride most of the rides.

Fun stuff with these little ones...blessed times!
