I'll spare you the end of year review that is so popular. I'm not sure what the highlights of 2004 were. It is always interesting to see what is chosen and to figure out why.
I suppose I find it strange that I can sit here in the comfort of my home, with all these technological toys surrounding me, and view pictures of over a hundred thousand people dying, diseased, or dead in Asia. Yesterday I had lunch with two very good friends and this topic came up. I am left speechless in the face of such tragedy and certainly left empty-handed for some sort of divine explanation.
It certainly puts my little woes in perspective. When feeling overwhelmed in the face of such, we can only help in the little itsy bitsy ways that we can. Should you feel inclined, you can go to www.amazon.com and donate directly to the Red Cross. It is certainly humbling to be cashing in one's holiday gift card and to see the big red cross there on the front page; it has a way of jolting one into an immense gratitude for the luxury we have in this country.
On a happier note, I wish you all a happy and safe new year. I anticipate great changes in 2005, two of which I pray will be a pregnancy and a move to Alabama! Sweet home Alabama...
