Yesterday another major fertility hoop was cleared: medical clearance. Sounds so simple, but recalling what went in to it demonstrates the complexity:
1. Blood work (to prove no diseases)
2. Physical with pap and more screens for diseases
3. Clearance to next state with "within normal limits" pap
4. Order and schedule saline sono
5. Ambiguous 'shadow' on saline sono--order hysterosocopy
6. Wait for hysterosocopy during busy holiday season
7. Promise to seek treatment for hypertension or get cancelled for hysteroscopy
8. Hysterosocopy results--nada, no shadows
9. Seek treatment for hypertension (wonder why my BP is high...yeah, right...)
10. Manage transfer of file showing surgical results from one military hospital to another (perhaps the most difficult step...who woulda thought?)
11. Wait for file to be marked for medical clearance and sent to financial officer
12. Wait for financial officer to acknowledge file has arrived in her office
13. Receive fax from financial officer asking for signatures acknowledging costs of desired procedures
14. Fax signatures on Monday, PAY, and PRAY for FULL CLEARANCE.
At many points in this laborious process, I felt like phoning and saying "they are MY embryos...give them to me now." Sometimes you feel like you are dealing with a fertility hostage situation...
